The parliamentary Health and Social Care Committee has asked the government to provide an extra £7bn in annual investment to help support adult social care.
It comes in the wake of a recent National Audit Office report which highlighted several shortcomings in the current care system. Since 2009, adult social care funding has been cut by £9 billion, putting pressure on individuals to care for elderly or disabled family members.
Barbara Keeley, Labour MP for Worsley and Eccles South and member of the Health and Social Care Committee, said there is “an urgent need for reform” to help the millions of people affected.
