James Wild is the Conservative MP for North West Norfolk, having first been elected to Parliament in 2019 with a majority of 19,922.
The North West Norfolk constituency is very rural and spreads eastwards from the Wash, to include the towns of Kings Lynn and Hunstanton. The royal estate at Sandringham is located within this constituency and a quarter of the population is said to be of pensionable age. A normally safe Conservative seat, some 65% of people in this area backed Brexit in the 2016 referendum.
Mr Wild was appointed parliamentary private sectretary at the Department for Work and Pesnions in October 2022.
Born in 1977, James Wild was educated in Norwich and later at the University of London, where he studied politics.
Having started in the Conservative Research Department, Wild then worked in public relations for T Mobile before becoming a Senior Special Adviser to the Conservative Cabinet Minister, Michael Fallon. He later became a Special Advisor to Boris Johnson during his initial four months as Prime Minister in 2019.
Although, it is not immediately obvious, James Wild is though, far less of a political figure than his wife.
Wild is married to Baroness Evans, who was appointed Leader of the House of Lords in 2016 under Theresa May, and who is now one of the UK’s longest serving Cabinet Ministers.
In 2021, Wild was embroiled in controversy in relation to the way in which he questioned the Director General of the BBC, Tim Davie, about the corporation’s sparse use of the Union Jack flag.
Wild stood unsuccessfully for the next door seat of North Norfolk in the 2017 General Election. Having grown up in Norfolk, he is a supporter and season ticket holder at Norwich City Football Club.
At Westminster, Wild joined the Public Accounts Select Committee in 2020. He is a member of the All Party Parliamentary Groups on Chalk Streams, Cricket, Dark Skies, Speedway, and Motorsport.
