Liz Twist is‌ ‌the‌ Labour ‌MP‌ ‌for‌ Blaydon,‌ ‌having‌ ‌first‌ ‌been‌ ‌elected‌ ‌to‌ ‌Parliament‌ ‌in 2017.

Blaydon is a long time Labour supporting seat in Tyne and Wear which has backed the party consistently since the Second World War.  Located in the Borough of Gateshead, to the south west of Newcastle, it is a former coal mining area, which includes the communities of Blaydon, Whickham, Rowlands Gill, and Ryton.

Liz Twist currently serves as an Opposition Whip, and an opposition spokesperson on Scotland.

Born‌ ‌in 1956‌, Liz was‌ ‌educated‌ ‌at‌ Aberystwyth University. She worked‌ as‌ a trade union official for UNISON and became their Head of Health in the North East before‌ ‌being‌ ‌elected‌ ‌to‌ Parliament.‌ ‌

She served as a Councillor on Gateshead Council between 2012 and 2018.

Twist is a regular listener for the Samaritans, and was widowed in 2000 after her husband took his own life.  She is Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Suicide and Self Harm Prevention
