Jamie Stone was first elected to Parliament in 2017 as ‌the Liberal Democrat‌ MP‌ ‌for‌ Caithness, Sunderland and Easter Ross, having‌ ‌been reelected in 2019 with‌ ‌a‌ ‌majority‌ ‌of‌ just 204 ‌over ‌the Scottish National Party.‌ ‌

Caithness and Sutherland is one of the largest geographical seats in the UK, and also the most northerly on the UK mainland.  It spreads down from the north coast of Scotland over a vast rural area and includes the towns of Thurso, Wick, and the area of Easter Ross.  This seat is one of the most long standing Liberal Democrat constituencies in the UK, albeit it was previously gained by the SNP in 2015.  The seat currently has the sixth smallest majority at Westminster.

Jamie Stone was‌ ‌appointed‌ ‌as‌ the Liberal Democrat Spokesperson for Defence ‌in‌ August 2019.‌  He also speaks for the party on Digital, Culture, Media & Sport.

Born‌ ‌in 1954, Jamie was‌ ‌educated‌ ‌at‌ the University of St Andrews. Before becoming involved in politics he worked in a range of jobs including fish gutting in the Faroe Isles, on a building site, teaching English on the Italian Island of Sicily, and in the oil industry‌.

Stone was elected as a councillor on Ross and Cromarty Council between 1986 and 1996.  He was the Liberal Democrat MSP for Caithness, Sutherland and Easter Ross in the Scottish Parliament between 1999 and 2011.

He has previously remarked that should his parents have been alive to see his maiden speech in the Commons, his mother would have been astounded and his father would have fallen about laughing.

  • Mr Stone enjoys a Pantomime and has played as the star dame in many a production.  He is also a keen gardener who is said to be an expert on both edible fungi and identifying butterfilies.
  • Jamie Stone is the Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Groups on Gaps in Sport.  He is the Vice Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Groups on Cleaning and Hygiene; Media; Nuclear Energy; the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee 2022; Scottish Sport; Single Parent Families; Space; Bahrain; Adult Social Care; Aerospace; and the Armed Forces.

According to the Register of Members Interests he is a shareholder and director of the property company, Highland Fine Houses Ltd.
