Jane Stevenson is the Conservative MP for Wolverhampton North East, having first been elected to Parliament in 2019, gaining the seat off the Labour Party with a majority of 4,080.
Wolverhampton North East contains the suburb of Wednesfield, and is normally a Labour voting constituency, albeit it was previously won by the Conservatives in 1987. Some 67.7% of the local electorate voted to Leave the EU in the 2016 referendum.
Stevenson was appointed parliamentary private secretary at the department of business, energy and industrial strategy in October 2022.
Born in 1971 in Wolverhampton, Jane Stevenson won a scholarship to the Guildford School of Music, and worked as a professional classical singer (a soprano soloist). She has sung at concerts around the world and at the Royal Albert Hall. She has also worked as a singing teacher.
Stevenson was elected to Wolverhampton City Council in 2018.
She supported Leave in the 2016 Brexit referendum.
She is a member of the All Party Parliamentary Groups on Complex Needs (Chair), Key Cities, and the Midlands Engine.
