Robin Walker was first elected as the Conservative MP for Worcester in 2010, being reelected in 2019 with a majority of 6,759.
The constituency of Worcester is a compact seat based entirely around the city of Worcester and its city boundaries. For many years the seat was represented by the Conservative Cabinet Minister, Peter Walker, and the father of the current MP. To that extent, Worcester might now be regarded as something of a family seat.
Gained by Labour between 1997 and 2010, Worcester is though one of the UK’s most well known marginal constituencies, home to the typical swing voter who goes under the synonym ‘Worcester Woman’.
Walker has announnced his intention to step down from Westminster at the next election.
Robin Walker is currently the Chair of the Commons Select Committee on Education.
Walker was appointed Minister of State for Education in September 2021. He resigned in July 2022 claiming he no longer had confidence in the leadership of Boris Johnson.
