Grant, Peter

Peter Grant was first elected as the SNP MP for Glenrothes in 2015, being reelected in 2019 with a majority of 11,757.

The constituency of Glenrothes covers the centre of the county of Fife, on the East coast of Scotland.  It is centred around the former mining town of Glenrothes, mid way between Edinburgh and Dundee. This area of Scotland was once referred to as silicon glen in Scotland as part of an effort to attract inward investment, an initiative, which has had a somewhat mixed history.  A former Labour area, it was gained by the SNP in 2015.

Peter Grant is part of the SNP Shadow Treasury team at Westminster.

Peter Grant was born in 1960 in Lanarkshire, and was educated at Glasgow University.  He worked as an accountant for the NHS, and as a physics teacher before being elected to Parliament.

Grant served on Fife Council between 1992 and 2015, and was leader of the Council between 2007 and 2012.

He is a keen amateur musician.  He enjoys bowls and was previously the chairman of Leslie Bowling Club.  His wife, Fiona, is a local GP and also a local councillor.
