Marco Longhi is the Conservative MP for Dudley North, having first been elected to Parliament in 2019, gaining the seat from the Labour Party with a majority of 11,533.
Dudley North contains the northern part of Dudley, and is located in the West Midlands conurbation to the west of Birmingham and below Wolverhampton. Although held by Labour since 1997, this seat had been a long time target for the Conservative Party and the party gained it easily in 2019. A high 71.4% of the electorate voted to leave the EU in the 2016 Brexit referendum.
Marco Longhi was born in 1967 in the West Midlands, but with an Italian father, he grew up in Rome. Longhi was nevertheless a prominent supporter of Brexit in the 2016 referendum on EU membership.
Educated at at Manchester University, he trained as a pilot before working internationally in the oil and gas industry, including five years spent in South America.
He has also been involved in property through Justmove (Lettings) Ltd and according to the Register of Members Interests, in 2020, he had a property portfolio with his wife that included nine houses in Walsall.
In 1999, he was elected to Walsall Council, and was formerly the Mayor of Walsall.
Longhi has been publicly supportive of the prime minister, in the wake of the ‘partygate’ affair.
He is the Chairman of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Brazil, and a member of the All Party Parliamentary Groups on Kashmir, the Armed Forces Covenant, and Council Housing.
