Chris Loder is the Conservative MP for West Dorset, having first been elected to Parliament in the 2019 general election with a majority of 14,106 over the Liberal Democrats.
The West Dorset constituency is found within the county of Dorset and covers the towns of Dorchester, Sherborne, Bridport and the surrounding market towns and villages, as well as a large part of the Jurassic coast including a UNESCO heritage site. Although at times the Liberal Democrats have polled well in this part of Dorset, this remains a Conservative stronghold. It has been held continuously by the party ever since 1885. Prior to 2019, it was represented at Westminster by Sir Oliver Letwin.
Before being elected to Parliament, Chris Loder worked as head of new trains for the South Western Railway. He joined South West Trains at the age of 18, and previously worked as a guard, and a station assistant for the company. He later became manager of the line between Bournemouth and Weymouth.
Born in 1981,Chris Loder has previously also served as a Councillor on West Dorset Council.
Loder supported Leave in the 2016 Brexit referendum. He is a freeman of the City of London.
He is a Christian, and in his spare time, he is a church organist and bell ringer.
