Lilian Greenwood was first elected as the Labour MP for Nottingham South in 2010, being reelected with a majority of 12,568.
She currently serves as Shadow Minister for Arts and Heritage, having been appointed to the role in Keir Starmer’s September 2023 reshuffle.
The Nottingham South constituency has been held by Labour continuously since 1992. An economically diverse seat, it contains areas more deprived inner city areas as well as more affluent suburbs in Wollaton and Clifton. Nottingham University and Nottingham Trent University both have a campus within this constituency.
Greenwood previously served as Labour’s Deputy Chief Whip at Westminster.
She was also previously Shadow Secretary of State for Transport between 2015 and 2016, but resigned in protest at Jeremy Corbyn’s leadership. She supported Owen Smith in his 2016 challenge to Corbyn.
She was Chair of the Select Committee on Transport between 2017-20.
Greenwood supported Lisa Nandy in the 2020 Labour leadership election.
Greenwood was born in 1966 and was educated at Cambridge University. She worked for Unison for as a regional organiser and officer before being elected to Parliament.
She is married and has 3 daughters.
