Kevin Hollinrake was first elected as the Conservative MP for Thirsk & Malton in 2015, being reelected in 2019 with a majority of 25,154.
The constituency of Thirsk and Malton is a large rural and agricultural seat on the eastern side of North Yorkshire. It covers the southern half of the North York Moors. The seat includes the communities of Thirsk, Pickering, Malton, and Filey on the coast. This is an affluent area which is safe Conservative territory. The party have won every General Election in this part of Yorkshire since the First World War.
Kevin Hollinrake was appointed Parliamentary Under Secretary of State in the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy in October 2022.
Hollinrake was born in 1963 and grew up in this constituency. His father was a milkman and his mother a social worker.
He studied Physics at Sheffield Hallam University, before leaving to join the Prudential’s Estate Agency.
Kevin Hollinrake was a successful businessman before become an MP. In 1992, he co-founded Hunters Estate Agents which he helped grow into a national chain with over 200 branches nationwide, employing over a thousand staff.
Hollinrake supported Remain in the 2016 EU referendum, and expressed concerns over a ‘No Deal’ Brexit. He backed Michael Gove in the 2019 Conservative Party leadership election.
In 2020, Hollinrake’s tweet in the midst of the school meals debate was retweeted critically by footballer come political campaigner, Marcus Rashford, with Rashford’s tweet receiving over two hundred thousand likes.
Kevin Hollinrake is Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Groups on Fair Business Banking; Land Value Capture; the Northern Powerhouse; Poverty; Tidy Britain; and Yorkshire and Northern Lincolnshire. He is Vice Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Groups on Antibiotics; Anti Corruption and Responsible Tax; Heritage Rail; Housing in the North; Listed Properties; Management; Mortgage Prisoners; Personal Banking; Thalidomide; the Private Rented Sector; Uplands and Hill Farming; and Whistleblowing.
Hollinrake is married with four children. He enjoys and plays both cricket and rugby, as well as golf.
