Simon Jupp is the Conservative MP for East Devon, having first been elected to Parliament in 2019 with a majority of 6,708 over Claire Wright.
The East Devon constituency is a rural seat found within the county of Devon and covers Exmouth, Sidmouth before stretching into the suburbs of Exeter. Normally a safe Conservative seat, in recent elections, the primary challenge to the Conservatives has come in the form of the independent politician, Claire Wright. A Devon County Councillor, Ms Wright has regularly been contesting the General Election here, building her vote steadily each time. In 2019 her vote had surpassed 25,000, making her the most popular independent local candidate in the UK.
Jupp was appointed parliamentary private secretary at the department of transport in October 2022.
Born in 1985, Simon Jupp worked as a local radio presenter and journalist before being elected to Parliament. He helped establish Radio Plymouth in 2010.
Jupp later traded journalism for politics and worked as the Head of Broadcast for the Conservative Party in 2017. In 2019 he was a Special Advisor to the First Secretary of State and Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab.
Jupp supported Remain in the 2016 Brexit referendum. He was appointed to the Commons Transport Select Committee in 2020.
He is a member of the All Party Parliamentary Groups on the Channel Islands, Commercial Radio, the Mayflower 400, and South Western Railway.
