Jonathan Lord was first elected as Conservative MP for Woking in 2010, being reelected in 2019 with a majority of 9,767.
The Surrey constituency of Woking is dominated by the commuter town of Woking, itself now the largest town in Surrey. The constituency also contains the smaller communities of Byfleet and Brookwood. Although the Liberal Democrats have maintained a base level of support in this constituency, this is generally regarded as safe Conservative territory with this seat being held relatively comfortably by the Conservatives ever since it was created in 1950.
Jonathan Lord was born in 1962 and read History at Merton College, Oxford University. Prior to becoming a Member of Parliament, he had a background in advertising, marketing and technology. He is a former Director of Saatchi & Saatchi.
Lord served briefly on Surrey County Council between 2009 and 2011. Prior to this he had also been a Councillor and Deputy Leader of the City of Westminster Council between 1994 and 2002.
Lord supported Brexit in the 2016 EU referendum, and supported Dominic Raab in the 2019 Conservative Party leadership election.
Jonathan Lord is Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Egypt. He is Vice Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Groups on Immigration Law and Policy; Longevity; Sixth Form Education; and the Isle of Man.
He is married with two children. He lists his interests as cricket and going to the theatre.
