Neil Hudson is the Conservative MP for Penrith and the Border, having first been elected to Parliament in 2019, with a majority of 18,159.
The Penrith and the Border constituency is found within the county of Cumbria and covers the town of Penrith and several other towns and villages close to the Scottish Border. One of the largest constituencies in England, it’s economy is largely dominated by farming and forestry. A safe Conservative seat it was represented at Westminster by the Deputy Prime Minister, Willie Whitelaw up until 1987.
Neil Hudson worked as an equine vet, who was an inspector during the 2001 foot and mouth epidemic. He also worked as a senior lecturer in equine science at the University of Edinburgh before being elected to Parliament. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons and a member of the British Equine Veterinary Association. He is a member of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Horses.
He was educated at Cambridge University, the University of Sydney and holds a PhD in Equine Gastroenterology from the University of Edinburgh.
Keen on amateur dramatics, he was once a member of the Cambridge Footlights at Cambridge University, and has previously appeared at the Edinburgh fringe festival.
