Nick Fletcher is the Conservative MP for Don Valley, having first been elected to Parliament in 2019, gaining the seat from Labour with a majority of 3,630.
The Don Valley constituency is found on the eastern side of of South Yorkshire and covers the towns of Hatfield, Thorne and Conisbrough. Found to the south of Doncaster, this is a former mining area. Prior to the 2019 General Election, Don Valley had been held by the Labour Party ever since 1922. Some 68.5% of the local electorate supported Leave in the 2016 Brexit referendum. Fletcher defeated the Labour MP Caroline Flint here in 2019, to become the first ever Conservative MP for this seat.
Contributing to a debate in Westminster Hall, for International Men’s Day 2021, Fletcher claimed that male role models in film and television were being replaced by women. He linked the development to the number of young men turning to crime.

In December 2023, Nick Fletcher was criticised once more for claiming that A&E waiting lists in his constituency of Don Valley were excessively long due to high levels of immigration.
He said: “We are turning parts of our community into a ghetto… you have a 12 hour waiting list at A&E, and the reason why the waiting list is so long, is because people don’t speak English in these places anymore”.
He is a member of the New Conservatives, a group of right-wing Tory MPs elected since the Brexit referendum and supportive of strong immigration controls.
He is also reported to be a member of the Northern Research Group and Common Sense Group — two further Conservative right factional groupings

Born in 1972, Nick Fletcher is local to Doncaster and was educated at Armthorpe Comprehensive before gaining a HNC in electronic engineering.
Fletcher established his own electrical contracting company called Analogue Electrics in Doncaster in the mid 1990s. He has has served on the board of the Doncaster Chamber of Commerce.
Nick Fletcher is married with two children.
Fletcher is a practising Christian who has described Christ as his greatest role model. He is a social conservative who is a member of the Parliamentary, Common Sense Group.
He is a member of the All Party Parliamentary Groups on Shared Ownership, Skills and Employment, the United Arab Emirates, and Transport across the North.
