Katherine Fletcher is the Conservative MP for South Ribble, having first been elected to Parliament in 2019 with a majority of 11,199 over the Labour Party. .
The South Ribble constituency is found in the south western corner of Lancashire. It includes the two small towns of Leyland and Penwortham. Often regarded as an electoral bell weather, which supports the government of the day, the seat was previously held by Labour between 1997 and 2010.
Katherine Fletcher MP was appointed Parliamentary Under Secretary of State in the Department for Transport and a Parliamentary Secretary (Minister for Women) in the Cabinet Office under Liz Truss in September 2022. She served in the role for one month until Rishi Sunak became prime minister in October 2022.
Born in 1976, Katherine Fletcher studied biological anthropology at the University of Nottingham.
Before becoming an MP, Fletcher first worked in management and IT consultancy for CapGemini, and then Lloyds Bank.
Fletcher later set up her own business, British Originals, an antique and vintage wooden furniture company. She is a member of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Women and Enterprise.
Fletcher assisted in the early setup of the Northern Powerhouse
Katherine Fletcher is also a qualified safari ranger having previously worked on a game reserve in South Africa.
Fletcher is a Manchester United fan and season ticket holder, and a member of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Football.
In the light of the ‘partygate’ affair, Fletcher said that many of her constituents thought the PM had been a ‘wally’, but given that “100,000 Russians have showed up” on Ukraine’s borders, they’re wondering why everyone is “talking about cake”…..
Fletcher has also detailed her love of palaeontology, otherwise known as the collection and study of fossils.
