David Jones was elected as the Conservative MP for Clwyd West in 2005, being re-elected in 2019 with a majority of 6,747.
The constituency of Clwyd West in North East Wales spreads inland from the seaside resort of Colwyn Bay on the North Wales coast to include a number of smaller towns such as Ruthin in Denbighshire. This area has historically lent to the Conservatives, but not without question, and this seat was held by the Labour Party between 1997 and 2005.
David Jones served as Secretary of State for Wales between 2012 and 2014 in the Cabinet. He was Under Secretary for Wales between 2010 and 2012.
In 2016, Jones returned to the government and was Minister of State responsible for Existing the European Union.
Jones was a Member of the National Assembly for Wales between 2002 to 2003. Jones is fluent in the Welsh language. During his time in Cardiff, Jones declared membership of the freemasons albeit in 2009 claimed not to have been active for many years.
Born in 1952, David Jones was brought up in North Wales and educated at Ruabon Grammar School and University College, London. A solicitor by profession, he was the senior partner of a practice based at Llandudno.
Jones supported Brexit in the 2016 referendum and was an organiser of the Vote Leave Campaign in Wales. He has served as Deputy Chairman of the European Research Group of Tory MPs.
On the right of the Conservative Party, Jones is socially conservative. At Westminster he has voted against same sex marriage and the legalisation of abortion in Northern Ireland.
He supported Boris Johnson in the 2019 Conservative Party leadership election.
Jones is married with two sons. He is known to be a keen supporter of Liverpool Football Club.
