Green, Chris

Chris Green has been the Conservative MP for Bolton West since 2015, being reelected in 2019 with a majority of 8,855.

The constituency of Bolton West is found in the north western corner of Greater Manchester, and includes the separate greenbelt communities of Atherton, Heaton, Horwich, and Westhoughton.  It is the most affluent and rural of the three Bolton seats.

This constituency has typically been a swing marginal seat which was held by the Labour Cabinet Minister, Ruth Kelly, between 1998 and 2010.  The Conservatives gained the seat in 2015, and bolstered by a high Leave vote, won the seat with an unprecedented 55% of the vote in 2019.

Born in 1973, Chris Green worked  as an engineer in the mass spectrometry industry for nearly twenty years before being elected to Parliament.

Green supported Dominic Raab, and then Boris Johnson in the 2019 Conservative leadership election. Green was a supporter of Brexit and submitted a letter of no confidence in Theresa May during her tine as Prime Minister.

Not afraid to speak his mind, he favours further English devolution, and has been particularly vocal around the government’s levelling up agenda.  He was also critical of the lockdowns imposed by the government during the Coronavirus pandemic of 2020 and 2021.

Green enjoys running and has completed a number of London marathons.

At Westminster he is Vice Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Groups on CAFOD, Cleaning and Hygiene, Digital Skills, Engineering, Fusion Energy, Heart Valve Disease, and Life Sciences.  He is Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Groups on Medical Research.
