Felicity Buchan is the Conservative MP for Kensington, having first been elected to Parliament in 2019 with a slim majority of 150 votes over the Labour Party. This is the second smallest Conservative majority at Westminster.
One of the most marginal five constituencies in the UK, this seat is an area of contrasts. Incorporating South Kensington, and the area around the royal palaces, this seat has some of the highest house prices in Europe. Whilst in Ladbroke Grove and North Kensington there area a number of high rise tower blocks and areas of deprivation. Grenfell Tower the scene of the 2017 tragedy is located within this seat. The seat also covers the Earls Court area of London. Having been gained by Labour in 2017, the Conservatives regained the seat (just), in 2019.
Felicity Buchan was appointed as a Parliamentary Under Secretary of State in the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities in October 2022. She was briefly Exchequer Secretary to the Treasury under Liz Truss between September and October 2022.
She was previously a PPS at the Department of Business, Energy, and Industrial Strategy but resigned in July 2022 in protest at Boris Johnson continuing to remain as prime minister.
Felicity Buchan grew up in Aberdeenshire, before studying Law at Oxford University. She previously worked in investment banking for JP Morgan Chase and the Bank of America. The 2021 register of Members Interests showed her to still have shareholdings in both companies.
Reflecting the fact that Grenfell Tower can be found in her constituency, she is Vice Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Fire Safety. She is also a member of the All Party Parliamentary Groups on Knife Crime, Museums, Regeneration, and Women and Enterprise.
