Dr Andrew Murrison was elected to Parliament in 2001 as the Conservative MP for Westbury, which in turn was renamed as South West Wiltshire. In 2019 he was reelected with a majority of 21,630.
The South West Wiltshire constituency is a rural seat that covers the county town of Trowbridge, and the market towns of Warminster, and Westbury. This area of the country is safe Conservative territory which has been represented by the party continuously since 1924.

Morrison had previously served as the Minister of State for International Development and the Middle East between 2019 and 2020. He previously served under David Cameron as Under Secretary of State for Northern Ireland between 2014 and 2015, and as Under Secretary of Defence between 2012 and 2014.
Dr Murrison was previously the UK trade envoy to Morocco but resigned in July 2022 in protest as Boris Johnson continuing to remain as prime minister.
In 2017 he was briefly the Chair of the Commons Select Committee on Northern Ireland.
Andrew Murrison was born in 1961 in Colchester and raised in Harwich, Essex. He studied medicine at Bristol (MD, MB CHB) and public health at Hughes Hall, Cambridge (DPH).
Dr Murrison served for 18 years as a Medical Officer in the Royal Navy leaving in October 2000 as a Surgeon Commander. He was recalled in 2003 to serve in Iraq, and according to the Register of Members Interests, he remains a Surgeon Commander in the Royal Naval Reserve.

Murrison supported Boris Johnson in the 2019 Conservative Party leadership election. In 2022, writing in the Guardian, he accepted that the men in grey suits could call time on the PM’s premiership, but described himself as a ‘serial Boris supporter.
Dr Murrison is married to Jenny, and has five daughters. He employs his wife as a part time senior caseworker.
