Tories are out of ideas on how to fix our broken economic model

Commenting on new ONS figures which show those economically inactive because of long-term sickness increased to another record high of 2.6 million Nicola Smith, head of economics and rights at the TUC, said:

“This is yet another example to add to the government’s catalogue of economic failures with rapidly rising unemployment alongside record numbers of people unable to find work because of ill health.

“The Conservatives have let down working people – and they are out of ideas on how to fix our broken economic model.

“Ministers should have upgraded workers’ rights and protections through a long-promised employment bill to ensure workers are treated fairly at work.

“And they should have put together a plan to fix the crisis in our NHS that leaves millions waiting months or even years for treatment.”
