Make polluters pay: Centrica and Shell profit while households suffer and fires rage on

Georgia Whitaker, climate campaigner for Greenpeace UK, said: “It’s galling for households to see Centrica’s profits increasing tenfold, and Shell raking in £4bn – while the cost of living crisis continues, and heatwaves and wildfires are raging on.

“Ofgem now has the remit to push the UK towards net zero, but we need this UK government to wake up to what voters care about: measures to bring bills down, and to make polluters like Centrica and Shell pay for this chaos they’re causing.

“Sunak needs to urgently ditch new oil and gas; upgrade our homes and transport networks and make sure these obscene profits are being tapped to pay for climate action to help people in the UK and around the world.”
