Time for Sunak to cancel his holiday from climate reality
Commenting on the UK government being about to release a climate adaptation plan criticised by experts for being weak on extreme heat just as a major heatwave rages across southern Europe, Greenpeace UK’s programme director Amy Cameron said:
“Devastating heatwaves are bad enough when they ruin family holidays close to our shores, they are even worse when they hit home as they did in the UK last year. This week has shown there’s no running away from the impacts of the climate crisis and yet that’s exactly what our prime minister seems to be doing. His top priorities should be to cut the emissions heating up the planet while preparing Britain to withstand the impacts, yet he’s failing on both. Sunak is goading fossil fuel giants into drilling for more oil and gas while his government is set to publish a climate adaptation plan slammed by experts for being weak. It’s time for Sunak to cancel his own holiday from climate reality and get serious about tackling one of the biggest threats we face.”
