UK High Court to Hear ULEZ Expansion Challenge

London, UK – commenting ahead of the judicial review being heard at the UK High Court today against Sadiq Khan’s Ultra Low Emissions Zone (ULEZ) expansion, Areeba Hamid, Joint-Executive Director at Greenpeace UK, said: “Council chiefs are fighting completely the wrong battle. They should be putting their energy and resources into bringing down air pollution, not a key anti-pollution measure.

“Toxic air remains an ever-present threat to the health of millions of Londoners. Every borough in the city exceeds pollution levels deemed safe by the World Health Organisation, with households in the most deprived areas exposed to the dirtiest and most dangerous air. We all have a right to breathe clean air, and the ULEZ is one proven method to help urgently reduce the number of cars on the road, making our cities cleaner and safer for everyone. Instead of setting their lawyers on the mayor, these councils should work with him to create a transport system that helps people get around without poisoning our air.”
