Shell Nigeria spill
Shell is behind yet another oil spill in Nigeria, it has been reported today. The spill is from the Trans-Niger Pipeline, affecting a region where Shell has already faced legal action for the pollution it has caused there.
Thandile Chinyavanhu, Greenpeace Africa Climate and Energy Campaigner, said: “This latest spill compounds Shell’s bloodstained record in Nigeria, and Shell continues to make enormous profits from fuelling the climate crisis – which directly impacts communities like these around the world.
“Shell must be held accountable and financially responsible for this spill and for its neocolonial role in causing climate loss and damage – it’s their fault, and they have the money to pay, after reporting $40bn of profits last year.
“As we approach global climate talks, COP28, world leaders must be prepared to make polluters pay.”
