Inflation figures show ‘GOVT out of ideas on economy’
Enormous economic damage is being done because people can’t afford to pay the bills, says GMB Union
Today’s inflation figures [1] show the Government is ‘out of ideas on the economy’, GMB Union has said.
The CPI rate of inflation for the 12 months to May was 8.7 per cent, the same rate it was in April.
Gary Smith, GMB General Secretary, said:
“Today’s inflation figures show that the Government is out of ideas on the economy.
“Workers are suffering the steepest real-terms cuts in living memory, and enormous economic damage is being done because people can’t afford to pay the bills.
“Across the country, people are paying the price for the Government’s failure to invest in our essential infrastructure and the UK’s fatal embrace of a low wage and low investment economic model.”
