Shell shareholders vote down climate activist resolution amid protests at AGM

London, UK – responding that Shell shareholders have voted down proposals for stronger action on climate change, approving instead more limited aims of achieving net zero by 2050, Charlie Kronick, Senior Climate Advisor at Greenpeace UK, said: “Shell’s executives are boasting about plans to reduce their carbon emissions, but know full well that the overwhelming majority of emissions are produced when their products are burned. Until they commit to reducing oil and gas production, their net zero goals are a load of hot air.

“With global temperatures predicted to begin exceeding the 1.5° C limit within a few yearsShell has made clear it is incapable of reforming itself. It’s time for the UK government to step in and force Shell and the other oil majors to use their rocketing profits to pay for the damage their industry is already causing around the world.”
