Greenpeace responds to Equinor’s profit announcement
Responding to Equinor’s profit announcement, Greenpeace UK’s climate campaigner, Philip Evans, said:
“Despite these obscene profits, the Government is set to hand Equinor billions of taxpayers money to develop Rosebank, an oil field so vast it will single handedly blow our carbon budget, while doing nothing to lower bills.
“How can it be that fossil fuel companies receive tax breaks for new projects that will destroy the climate while cheap, clean renewables aren’t afforded the same benefit?
“This Government must stop pandering to the fossil fuel industry. We need an end to new oil and gas now, an expansion of the windfall tax and closure of the loophole that encourages new drilling. It’s the only way to get genuine energy security, save the climate and tackle the cost of living.”
