Greenpeace responds to Labour’s Water Quality Bill
Responding to Labour’s plans to force a vote on their Water Quality Bill, Greenpeace UK’s Political Campaigner, Megan Corton Scott, said:
“People all across the country are appalled at the unprecedented sewage dumping the government has allowed onto our beaches and into our rivers.
“With this Bill, Labour is recognising how important the health of our natural environment is to the public, the pride people feel in the place they live, and how let down communities have been by government inaction.
“More detail is needed on the proposed legal requirements and the investment needed to protect our rivers and beaches. But politicians on all sides should back this Water Quality Bill to take the first step in tackling the sewage scandal that has united the country in outrage. More dither and delay from the government will only cost them at the ballot box.”
