Energy UK responds to the Government’s Energy Security Plan

Responding to the Government’s Energy Security Plan, Energy UK’s chief executive, Emma Pinchbeck said:

“The sheer range of what this plan covers shows both the size of the challenge and the scale of the opportunities involved in meeting our climate change targets and ensuring a secure, clean, and cheap energy system. This transformation offers the economic, social and environmental chance of our lifetime to create up to 500,000 new jobs; to boost British companies, manufacturing and supply chains; and to improve people’s lives with warmer, more comfortable homes that also benefit from cheaper energy.

“The energy industry has led the way so far by investing in the ever-increasing amount of clean energy powering our homes and businesses – but as a country we risk falling behind, not only against our own targets but in the face of increasing competition for green investment from abroad. The Government must now ensure we have both the right environment to attract that investment and a laser focus on delivery – all the detailed work involved in reforming regulations and policies and putting in place the infrastructure and systems that we need to make the most of our huge potential to produce low cost, low carbon domestic power.

“A day where the Government reaffirms those ambitions and sets out its plans is welcome – but most importantly, it must now be followed by a relentless drive over the coming weeks, months and years to deliver on them.”
