Centre for London response to ONS inflation data, March 2023

Responding to the latest inflation statistics, Claire Harding, Research Director, Centre for London said:

“This latest data is a blow to Londoners who were hoping that rates would start to come down. Sharp rises in prices of food and clothes will hit families hard, and falling petrol prices are of little benefit to the 42 per cent of London’s households who don’t own a car.

We welcome the continuation of the energy price cap in last week’s Budget, but too many families are still struggling, and the cost of renting a home is rising fast. We’re calling on the chancellor to offer more support for Londoners struggling with impossible housing costs, and to set benefit levels which reflect the real cost of living.”
