Comment on possible Govt u-turn on energy bills support

Simon Francis, coordinator of the End Fuel Poverty Coalition, commented:
“Rather than allowing this story to leak out, why can’t the Government reassure households today that they won’t face crippling bills come April. Playing politics with people’s financial anxiety is not on.

“Even if they confirm this move and energy bills are capped at current levels, the reality is that it will still feel like a 19% increase in bills for people overnight from 1 April. This is because the Energy Bill Support Scheme is coming to an end and new proposed support for vulnerable households is insufficient.”
