NASUWT calls for talks with government to commence urgently

Today the NASUWT – The Teachers’ Union is calling on the Department for Education to engage urgently in proper negotiations in the ongoing dispute on teachers’ pay.

Dr Patrick Roach, NASUWT General Secretary, said:

In the last 24 hours, the Government has written to unions about the prospect of talks about our disputes, but they are placing arbitrary and artificial preconditions which could only have the effect of preventing meaningful dialogue from taking place.

“We have already had a number of cordial meetings with the Secretary of State, but now we need to see constructive talks and negotiations commence urgently.

“The NASUWT reiterates that we will dedicate as much time as is required to meet with Ministers to secure a resolution to this dispute.

“If we are to avoid a further escalation of industrial action in schools, the Government needs to act with integrity and bring proposals to the table that we can consider and discuss.”
