Centre for London response to ONS unemployment data, January 2023
Responding to the latest ONS unemployment data, Claire Harding, Research Director, Centre for London said:
“This slight fall in unemployment is welcome news. But London still has a higher proportion of people out of work than many other parts of England: a decrease in the number of people unemployed elsewhere means the capital is now the region with the joint second highest level of unemployment.
We also have the highest cost of living, so even Londoners in work are struggling to pay the bills. If the government are serious about persevering with their strategy to level up the country, ignoring those who are left behind in the capital won’t work.”
