1/3 of UK’s new cars electric in Dec
In response to reports[1] that a third of the UK’s new car sales in December were battery electric vehicles, Mel Evans, Oil and Gas Campaigner for Greenpeace UK, said –
“Many people see electric vehicles appearing on their streets as a symbol of progress, a sign that we are starting to take the climate crisis seriously. But the numbers released today have an even better story to tell. Only around a third of cars sold in December were petrol driven, and diesel has almost disappeared from the statistics. If the government supports this trend, learns from places like Norway and regulates to maintain the momentum, more drivers will benefit from lower fuel and maintenance costs, and we can all start to enjoy cleaner air and lower planet-warming emissions.”
