HSBC move on new oil and gas an embarrassment for the UK govt

Commenting on UK banking giant HSBC announcing that it will no longer finance new oil and gas fields, Greenpeace UK’s senior climate campaigner Charlie Kronick said:

“Banks have been funding climate chaos to the tune of billions of pounds. Now one of the UK’s biggest banks has realised that there’s no place for new oil and gas in a world that is trying to tackle the climate crisis. This is long overdue, and it’s an embarrassment for the UK government. Ministers are now in the absurd position of pressing on with new oil and gas licences when the science rules out expansion and now even some banks are pulling out.”
