Centre for London response to ONS labour market data

Responding to the latest ONS data release from the 2021 census, Centre for London Research Manager Josh Cottell said:

“While London’s employment rate is above the English average, so is the proportion of Londoners looking for work or waiting to start a job.

Indeed, two London boroughs – Newham and Tower Hamlets – were the local authorities with highest percentage of jobseekers in England.

This shows the importance of not ignoring London’s levelling up needs. Many of the country’s poorest areas are in the capital, and their needs can’t be overlooked in the government’s plans.”
