Hundreds of FBU members to descend on Westminster for pay rally and parliamentary lobby
Hundreds of Fire Brigades Union (which is made up of firefighters and control staff) members from all corners of the UK will be in Westminster on Tuesday 6 December for a rally and parliamentary lobby.
Firefighters and control staff are currently in a pay dispute with their employers over a pay offer that would constitute a real-terms pay cut, and a ballot on strike action is set to open the day before, Monday 5 December.
The rally will take place in Methodist Central Hall, Storeys Gate, London, SW1H 9NH (beginning at 12). Media are invited to film or otherwise cover the day.
The aims of the day will include persuading MPs to:
- Fund the fire and rescue service to support fair pay for firefighters and control staff
- End the cuts to the fire and rescue service
- Invest in the front line
Hundreds of firefighters and control staff will gather outside Parliament, on Parliament Square, before going into Parliament to lobby their MPs. The rally will provide a number of significant photo opportunities as well as opportunities to speak to frontline firefighters and control staff on the ongoing pay dispute. FBU members are being encouraged to attend in fire tunics where possible.
