Energy UK responds to the Government’s announcement on Sizewell C

Responding to the Government’s announcement on Sizewell C, Energy UK’s Deputy Director, Adam Berman said:

“It’s fantastic news that the Government has today formally confirmed its backing for Sizewell C.

“Nuclear power has a vital role to play in both bolstering our energy independence and reaching our climate change targets through the supply of dependable low carbon energy. Expanding our own sources of cheap, clean and reliable power will make us less reliant on gas purchased on expensive and volatile international markets.

“Having made this significant step, the Government now needs to ensure we have the right incentives to bring forward investment in other nuclear technologies like small modular reactors – as well as suitable regulatory frameworks for low carbon energy like onshore wind that can be built quickly and at low cost.”
