Centre for London response to ONS unemployment data, November 2022
“While it is encouraging unemployment in the capital fell in the three months up to September, London still has the joint second highest joblessness total of any region, reinforcing that the levelling up agenda must not ignore the city.
With the national stats also now showing a small rise in unemployment in the last month, this could herald the shape of things to come if, as is widely predicted, the country is entering a recession. There’ll be a lot of pressure on the Chancellor’s statement this week to do more to keep people in work and support those made redundant as unemployment is catastrophic, made much worse by the soaring cost of living in the capital.”
