FBU comment on public sector workers polling

Fire Brigades Union general secretary Matt Wrack has commented in relation to new TUC polling, which has been issued to press under “Almost 1 in 3 key workers in the public sector have taken steps to leave their profession or are actively considering it”.

He said:

“Firefighters and control staff, like so many other key workers,  went above and beyond for their communities during the pandemic. Our reward for this was a pay offer that would be a substantial real-terms pay cut. It is nowhere near good enough. The government needs to get serious about rewarding public sector workers properly. No wonder so many are thinking of leaving. There is a growing disillusionment and already a huge recruitment and retention problem among retained firefighters.”
