“No let-up in sight” for millions of households as inflation rises again

The Money Advice Trust comments on figures showing inflation rose to 10.1% in September

The latest UK Consumer Prices Index (CPI) figures, published today by the Office for National Statistics, show that CPI rose to 10.1 percent in the twelve months to September, up from 9.9 percent in August.

Joanna Elson, chief executive of the Money Advice Trust, the charity that runs National Debtline and Business Debtline, said:

“The sustained impact of high prices for food, fuel and energy are already taking its toll on millions of households – and today’s rise in inflation shows there is no let-up in sight.

“For people on low incomes, whose budgets simply can’t stretch any further, the effects are being felt most keenly. At National Debtline we have already seen a rise in callers who do not have enough coming in to cover essential costs and this situation is only set to get worse in the coming months.

“It is now more vital than ever that the government commits to raising benefits by inflation – to give millions of families the reassurance they need.”

“If you are worried about your finances, you should seek free, independent debt advice from a service like National Debtline.”
