Commenting ahead of the Chancellor’s statement today Dr Doug Parr, Policy Director at Greenpeace UK said:
“The Chancellor is looking around for extra revenue to balance the books so why not consider a full and proper windfall tax on oil and gas? These companies have done their worst to keep us hooked on fossil fuels and are now getting richer from the energy crisis while millions of people are struggling because of it. It would make a lot of sense to properly tax their excess profits and use the money to fund the energy price cap while also fixing our energy-wasting homes so bills stay low for good. This government has already made more U-turns than a battalion on parade – one more won’t hurt and it’s the right one.”
