Labour has “a proper plan” for a high-wage Britain
Commenting on today’s (Monday) speech by Shadow Chancellor Rachel Reeves, TUC General Secretary Frances O’Grady said:
“We need a government that’s on the side of working people. The policies Rachel Reeves set out today can help deliver a real pay rise for everyone – and are a stark contrast to the Conservatives’ tax cuts for the super-rich.
“This is a proper plan for a high-wage Britain.”
On the NHS recruitment boost, Frances said:
‘The NHS is suffering the worst staffing crisis in its in history. This funded plan will help cut workloads, tackle the backlog and help hospitals plan for the future.
“NHS staff desperately need a decent pay rise.”
On the plans for a national wealth fund, Frances added:
“It’s vital the public have a stake in our energy future so we can deliver secure power, lower bills and good jobs in every corner of the country. A new wealth fund to put power in public hands is the right way to meet those goals.”
On the plans for an economic council with unions and businesses, Frances added:
“Unions have shown in times of crisis we are ready to step up in the country’s interest. The furlough scheme is proof of that.
“Working people and their unions should be round the table alongside business, shaping an industrial policy that delivers skilled, well-paid jobs to every part of Britain – and under Labour, we will.”
