Centre for London response to announcement of Andy Byford’s resignation as TfL Commissioner
“It has been a tough two and a half years for Transport for London and just when it seemed there’d be a period of calm, the organisation will be rocked by reports the Commissioner is to leave his post. Andy Byford was very clear when he got the job that his top priority was getting the Elizabeth Line open, so he should be congratulated for this massive achievement for the city.
He has also been pivotal in the negotiations with the Government over the funding deal which, to the relief of Londoners, removed the immediate threat of deep cuts to services. There are still some enormous challenges ahead for TfL, and the Mayor will need to move as quickly as possible to get a new Commissioner in place.”
