Rebecca Newsom, head of politics for Greenpeace UK, said: “Kwasi Kwarteng will no doubt be raring to roll out his plan to invest in vital home energy efficiency upgrades that were previously blocked by Sunak.
“When faced with a flatlining economy and unprecedented numbers of people struggling to pay their bills, Kwarteng might also want to reconsider a proper windfall tax on oil and gas mega profits to support an energy bill freeze and free up funds for bill-cutting home insulation.
“All eyes will be on this month’s emergency budget to see whether our new Chancellor is prepared to put his money where his mouth is and provide a real long-term solution to the cost of living crisis and the climate emergency.”
