Greenpeace quote on gas prices 9x higher than renewables
Reacting to the news that gas prices are now nine times more expensive than renewables, Greenpeace UK’s political campaigner, Ami McCarthy, said:
“The answer to the energy price crisis has never been clearer. The UK’s addiction to gas has caused a crisis that may plunge half of households into fuel poverty this winter and is driving the UK economy into a recession, as well as causing global climate chaos.
“That renewables can meet our energy needs for a fraction of the price, in a fraction of the time compared to new gas drilling, should be music to the government’s ears. Yet the Prime Minister in waiting, Liz Truss, still seems to think that continuing to block onshore wind and solar, while draining North Sea reserves and fracking is the answer. Domestic gas production will never shift global prices and this staggering price disparity demonstrates that she couldn’t be more wrong.”
