Voice of working people “must be at heart” of Covid–19 public inquiry

Commenting on the publication of the government’s draft terms of reference for the Covid-19 public inquiry, TUC General Secretary Frances O’Grady said:

“We are pleased the draft terms of reference for the Covid-19 public inquiry are finally out.

“These must now be subject to a meaningful consultation.

“It’s crucial that the voice of working people is at the heart of this inquiry.  The inquiry must take a forensic look at issues like sick pay, workplace safety, economic support and the disproportionate impact of Covid-19 on BME and low-income workers.

“Trade unions stand ready to bring the experiences of our members to the inquiry.  And we will seek recommendations that ensure workers are not left undefended on the frontline as too many were during this pandemic.”
