The Vegan Society secures three nominations for 2021 VegFest UK Awards
he Vegan Society is celebrating after being nominated for three different awards at the 2021 VegFest UK Awards.
The annual event is a celebration of all things vegan and was started by VegFest UK – the organisers of some of Europe’s biggest vegan events.
There are 210 nominees this year, the highest number to date, across twenty-one categories including Best Vegan Book, Favourite UK Vegan Mylk, Favourite Vegan ‘Meat’, Favourite Animal Sanctuary and Favourite Global Vegan Project.
The Vegan Society has been nominated alongside Viva!, Animal Aid and Veganuary for Best Vegan/AR Campaign Group. The charity has had a hugely successful year with both its campaigns and policy work, with our Future Normal Billboard, Vegan and Thriving 77 Challenge and on-the-ground work at COP26 proving to be highlights. Alongside this we’ve also continued to provide both legal support through our Vegan Rights Advocate and nutritional advice via our in-house dieticians.
The Society is also up for Best Vegan Magazine for The Vegan – our quarterly in-house publication which is sent out to all Members and Supporters. Each edition includes a mix of feature articles, interviews, recipes and round ups of the Society’s recent campaigns and policy work. It is up against nine other publications including Vegan Life Magazine, PlantBased Magazine and BRIGHT Zine.
The work of the Vegan Trademark, The Vegan Society’s gold-standard accreditation scheme, has also been recognised under Favourite Vegan Business Support. The Vegan Trademark was created in 1990 by The Vegan Society to introduce clarity on vegan product labelling. Just five companies had registered products initially but since then we’ve connected with thousands of brands and to date we have over 56,000 different products registered globally.
Francine Jordan, spokesperson for The Vegan Society, reacted to the news: “It’s wonderful to see The Vegan Society nominated across three different categories at this year’s VegFest UK Awards. Being recognised for any award is of course special, but it means that little bit more when it comes from those within the vegan movement.”
“Sometimes you don’t necessarily get to see or appreciate how much time, effort and attention goes on behind the scenes to produce our incredible magazine or on developing our Vegan Trademark. We like to think we have played our part in supporting the rise of veganism by providing a clear mark for vegans and non-vegans to look out for, and helping large and small businesses understand what vegan standards should be. Our goal, as always, is to make veganism as easy and accessible as possible. Of course it’s also fantastic to see so many of our Vegan Trademark holders are nominated for awards too. We wish all nominees the best of luck and can’t wait to see who takes home a prize.”
The winners are decided by a public vote and you have until Tuesday 14th December to pick your favourites. You can vote for your chosen vegan products, brands, organisations, campaign groups and sanctuaries here.
