Cogent SSC appoints skills director for London, South East and South West

Cogent has appointed Anne Harper (MA, AMRS, FRSA) as Skills Director with a wide-ranging workforce development brief covering London as well as South East and South West England.

Cogent is the employer-led SSC for the chemicals, pharmaceuticals, nuclear, oil and gas, petroleum and polymer industries. Its remit is to provide skills solutions to these science-using employers including the development of national occupational standards; the provision of skills intelligence and advising on the skills necessary for businesses to compete and perform safely, effectively and profitably.

Anne has spent her professional career in competence-based education and training. As a policy adviser across the four countries of the United Kingdom, she has worked under numerous political administrations, responding to shifting policy objectives, embracing new skill areas and developing national strategy on national occupational standards. She has delivered numerous papers on the UK NOS model at international events.

In the last four years as a freelance consultant Anne has delivered both programme and project management in the commercial, voluntary and public sector, driving forward initiatives from policy through to implementation.

Commenting on her appointment Anne said: “My experience in the skills arena will support Cogent’s work with companies to help them collectively address the skills challenges they face.

“Working with key stakeholders in the regions, and taking account of local priorities, I will be embedding Cogent’s strategy to promote careers opportunities, reduce skills shortages and close skills gaps in these important wealth-creating industries.”

Outside of work Anne enjoys travelling, walking, art, reading, theatre, and an eclectic range of live music.
